Kids Against Hunger

Who We Are

Kids Against Hunger St. Peters packages highly nutritious, life-saving meals for starving children and malnourished children and their families in developing countries and the United States. The goal of the organization is to share the love of God through Jesus Christ as we deliver meals to provide a stable nutritional base from which recipient families can move their families from starvation to self-sufficiency. We want to meet needs and change lives.

Originally the majority of our food supported strategic partnerships throughout Haiti with Global Compassion Ministries. But with the unrest in Haiti, we have expanded our distribution to many other countries, Guatemala, Peru, Kenya, Syria and Ukraine along with meeting needs locally.

We are making a difference.

What We Do

We empower people to serve the “least” in our world by offering opportunities to be an active part of packing and/or distributing food.

Why We Do It

When we serve and love those in extreme poverty we live out a “new vocation” that God calls us to as ambassadors of Jesus, offering reflections of redemption found in Him

How Are We Doing It?

Facilitating food packing events so vitamin-rich meals can be served to those in extreme poverty. This is done through strategic
partnerships with full-time missionaries on the ground.

Kids Against Hunger St. Peters History

For many years a group of people from Global Compassions Ministries, located in St. Charles, MO, led by Terry Estes have been going to Haiti on a regular basis.

On their many trips to Haiti to help build buildings, conduct VBS, work on many projects they always came back blessed as they saw the great need and the joy of knowing they were making a difference in people’s lives and sharing the love of Jesus with them.

But on one of the trips, they took a break to enjoy the lunch they had brought with them, along with the many supplies for the local people such as clothes, supplies, etc. But this time some of the Haitians asked them why they brought food for themselves, that they were very much in need of food. Many were starving, the buildings and other help was nice, and they appreciated it, but they really needed the food. And our story begins…

That was in 2009. Jerry Lantz was one of those men. When he got home, he got in touch with Kids Against Hunger and along with a faithful group of people from Global Compassions Ministries in 2010 the satellite of – ‘Kids Against Hunger St. Peters’ was formed.

When Jerry retired, Dan Vincent became the Director. In 2020 Steve Williams became the Director and currently serves in that role.

Kids Against Hunger Founder

In 1974, Proudfit went to Honduras as a volunteer following a devastating hurricane that hit the country. Profoundly affected by the starvation he saw among the children of that country, he made a conscious decision to commit his life and financial resources towards the enormous problem of world hunger.

Utilizing his knowledge in manufacturing and distribution, Mr. Proudfit tapped his colleagues in the corporate world for help. He enlisted the resources of leading food scientists to develop a highly nutritious meal – rich in protein and fortified with vitamins and minerals – that, when boiled with water, provides nourishment for starving children. His tireless relationship building resulted in a world-wide network of organizations that can successfully distribute the food under the worst conditions.

Proudfit is now retired from leadership of KAH, but his commitment to end world hunger remains the goal of Kids Against Hunger today.
