Kids Against Hunger

May 20, 2023 Letter from Steve

Hello KAH supporters,

Thank you so much for your prayers and support for the Peru mission trip. There is so much to report on the trip. I’ll list a few things we did and then share the part that moved me the most.

We were able to help a ministry in Pacasmayo, Peru (named Escolares Brillantes) in many ways while we were staying on the Ministries’ property. Most impactful for the ministry there was the artificial turf soccer field we were able to help install. You can see pictures on our Facebook page. This soccer field is going to be an ongoing source of income for the ministry to fund the work they are doing with the poorest children and their families in Pacasmayo. We also helped by repairing deteriorating walls around the playground there, repaired many faucet, shower and toilet problems, installed new doorknobs, purchased security cameras and lots of paint for use after we left, and were able to share Jesus through VBS on the property and street evangelism during church services in the town square two nights. It was wonderful! God changed lots of hearts while we were there… some from those in Pacasmayo and definitely all of us that went!

Regarding what was most impactful for me personally, we were able to have two food packings while there. One was in Pacasmayo, through Escolares Brillantes, and the other was through Pastor David Cruzado and Fuente De Vida Church in Trujillo. Both packings were done with large specially printed Kids Against Hunger bags filled with bags of rice, sugar, oatmeal, beans, a bottle of vegetable oil, cans of milk and tuna, pasta, crackers and toilet paper (the things the local pastors told us the people need the most). Handing these bags out brought pure joy to those of us that were handing them out… but it was also heart-breaking. In Pacasmayo we were driven to the poorest part of town (the part where most of the children enrolled in Escolares Brillantes live). Once there, we started passing out the bags to the few people we could see. In a matter of minutes, we witnessed so many people flocking towards us, it quickly became apparent that we did not have enough bags for everyone. That was beyond difficult to drive away telling those that did not get a bag that there wasn’t enough for everyone… but, it was very motivating for us to want to help more people! I was also encouraged to see and hear that this food was passed out with a blessing from God and an invitation to visit the church associated with Escolares Brillantes.

The people there know and respect the ministry for the kids, and we are praying that the food we were able to hand out will open at least one heart to hear and accept the saving Truth in God’s Word.

Thank you again for your help in making this trip a reality.
